Welcome to the official Web site of Pasteur/NHRI/CDC Symposium on Re-Emerging Virus Infections!
Viral infections continue to be a big threat to human. Some diseases have been effectively controlled with the help of modern technology. Yet diseases such as H5N1 avian flu, dengue virus, and enterovirus 71 infections still constitute big challenges for scientists to combat.
More than 200 confirmed cases of human infection with H5N1viruses have been reported since 2003. A complex interplay of factors can influence disease emergence. In addition to virus genetic variation (mutation, recombination, and reassortment), environmental factors (including ecological, social, health care, and behavioral influences) can play important roles. There is still a lot to learn about how different subtypes and strains of avian influenza virus might affect humans. The purpose of this symposium is to highlight the epidemiology and researches on emerging and re-emerging viruses infections, especially H5N1 avian flu.
The speakers include More than 20 top experts in the world. World leaders of the field, such as S. Halstead, A. Osterhaus, F. Rey, J. Skehel, R.G. Webster, among many others will bring their highly valuable experience to discussions about how to watch and control emerging or re-emerging virus infections. Valuable experience of these experts will offer substantial experience to participants.
The Symposium on Re-Emerging Virus Infections includes Three main sessions:
1) Influenza, especially H5N1
2) Dengue
3) Enterovirus and other re-emerging viruses
Your participation will ensure that this conference is a productive and enjoyable one. We look forward to seeing you in September, 2006.
